Swim and Boot Camp

1200 meters in the pool and then Boot Camp circuit training for 30 minutes. Good stuff but I miss being able to do everything in Boot Camp.

Wednesday Workout

Did the workout Janis gave me. With the exception of the pull-ups and push-ups, I could do 20 reps of each exercise 3 times. I still don’t feel like I’m exerting enough effort. I miss the feeling of pushing it until I puke.

Knee Surgery and my A1C

I’ve been scheduled for arthroscopic surgery on Wednesday, October 10. I’ll be out of work for a few days afterwards but should be bcak in on Monday. The doc said there would be a few weeks of rehab and that I could probably start jogging 4-6 weeks afterwards. He said I probably should not do the Marine Corps Marathon this year.

My A1C yesterday was 5.5 - last time it was 5.8. That’s the low end of normal. We didn’t reduce the dosage of medicine this time because my physical activity will drop in the next two months.

So, I probably won’t be the fastest man in the world by the end of the year which was one of my goals. And I won’t run a marathon this year, either. Give me another year and with God’s grace, both of those goals will be met. There’s a still a chance I could break 50 minutes in the Cooper River Bridge Run in the spring.

Swim and Spec Ops Boot Camp

I swam 1200 meters this morning. I used the hand paddles for about 1/2 of that distance. After the first 200 meters I used a pull buoy to keep me from kicking. It wasn’t exactly uncomfortable but it was a little harder to maintain form. I worked hard during the triathlon training  to develop proper form when swimming.

After I swam I went upstairs to Spec Ops Boot Camp and joined them for the final 25-30 minutes. When ever they did anything that was high impact, I did crunches or push ups. I just like being with everybody else. The hard part for me in exercising has always been doing it consistently on my own. Yes, I’ve done many runs on my own over the last few months but mostly those are driven by the marathon traing. If the marathon training wasn’t in front of me, I probably wouldn’t do any of that running on my own.

I’ve had to set Boot Camp aside

That hurts even to write it - I’ve had to set Boot Camp aside. I can go and see people but if I want to maintain my fitness level that I’ve worked so hard to attain over the last year, then I need to do something different because with a bum knee, I can’t do the intensity level that I previously did in Boot Camp. So, I need to do my workout completely and then if I have the time, I can join in and exercise with the group as I am able.

Janis set me up with a new routine. It’s basically 10 minutes on the bike and then upper body strength training. Four rotations of that with the strength training changing each time. By the end I was worn out. I think I’ll do that one day and swim the next.

Round and Round and Round - MRI this morning

On the bike this morning for 50 minutes and then crunches and pushups. Not a happy camper. I’ve really come to enjoy running and today was the first Wednesday where I’ve been in town and haven’t run.

Had my MRI this morning. Looks like my meniscus is torn and I have some fluid behind the kneecap. I’ll meet with the doctor next week to decide on treatment.

Modified Boot Camp

I went to Boot Camp and just didn’t do anything that involved impact. When the group ran, I went to the cardio room and hopped on the stationary bike.

Boot Camp - Down but not out

This morning in Boot Camp I injured my knee. It’s probably a torn medial meniscus. I’ve already had x-rays and that didn’t reveal anything. I’ll have an MRI on Wednesday and then will see the doc next Tuesday.

So - I guess I’m now looking forward to Marine Corps Marathon 2008.

Run 06:01 am

That was a slow run. I really beat up my legs at Boot Camp the last two days. Two miles hard each day and 200 squats and my meniscus was toast. Planned on 12. If Ashleigh had not been with me, I probably would have stopped earlier.

Spec Ops Bootcamp

Just a little different. We started out by running 1 mile, doing 200 squats, 100 push-ups and then running another mile. It all had to be done in under 38 minutes. I did it in 32. And then we did abs. I’m sure I’ll be sore tomorrow.
