Cooper River Bridge Run

Saturday, March 31st, 2007

I ran this with Steve, Laura, and Brooke. At times Kari (she started with us but we lost her somewhere) and Susan ran with us. The last time we saw Olivia before we finished was in front of Moultrie Middle School right after she snapped this picture. We had a blast. Our official finishing time was 1 hour 17 minutes. I was pleased with the time and am very grateful that the others slowed down to run it with me.

In the picture below is Laura Bryan, Steve Wood, me, Brooke Monroe, and Kari Heuer.

Saturday, March 31st, 2007
Activity
Route: Elev. Avg: 10 ft
Performance
Distance: 6.44 miles Goal: 12′ 30 min/mi pace

Notes
I started the phone well before the start so I wouldn’t forget to turn it on. You can see between that and the fact that you walk to the start and can’t really begin running that the first mile was recorded as 16.18.

Boot Camp Graduation

Friday, March 30th, 2007

Boot Camp – a physical fitness program at MUSC – ended today. This is my second Boot Camp and the thing that got me into running again. I received an award for perfect attendance and my friend Destiny received the award for Most Improved. I received the award last time.

Here’s my progress in the mile run portion of the Physical Fitness Test:
September 2006- 15.10 – I couldn’t run the whole mile
December 2006 – 13.30
January 2007 – 12.20
February 2007 – 11.35
March 26, 2007 – 9.55 (this was after doing 63 sit-ups and 47 push ups)

Pushups at Boot Camp

Tomorrow – The Cooper River Bridge Run (http:www.BridgeRun.com). Click on the Live Tracker link at the bottom of the page during the race and you can tell where I am during the race.

Hmmmm … Should We Contact Congress?

So now I’m editing the blog on a Runner’s World Runtracker interface. Same blog presented in two different places. The power of a database at work. Two brands – same stuff. http://gregontherun.rwruntrackerblogs.com and it is also here: http://gregontherun.bimjournals.com

I think the blog looks better in the BiM site. Would this be a violation of the Sherman Antitrust Act?

Run 05:15 PM

Wednesday, March 28th, 2007
I ran the Physical Fitness Test in Boot Camp this am and the Bridge Run is on Saturday. So – I just wanted to stretch my legs. I did figure out how to record the run and listen to music at the same time.

Activity
Route: Elev. Avg: 9 ft
Performance
Distance: 3.40 miles Goal: 3 miles

Notes
Pretty unbelievable how accurate this is. At the 1.7 mile mark, it even shows that I stopped at a traffic light.

It’s a New Toy!

Sunday, March 25th, 2007

I love gadgets and playing with new technology so I was pleased to have won a raffle at the Charleston Running Club (www.CharlestonRunningClub.com). The prize was a new Motorola Krzr phone. Verizon gave away the phones to promote their new Bones in Motion progam. With this phone, I can track my runs using GPS technology.

Basically, I press a start button when I begin and press a stop button when I’m done. The data is saved and then uploaded to the Bones in Motion website. I can then review the run on the website or on my phone. Distance, pace, weather, etc are automatically recorded. And I can listen to music on the phone, too, when I’m running.
