Back at Boot Camp

I returned to Boot Camp and did the full workout. And of course the first thing we did was run for a while. It was a platoon run so it wasn’t stressful. I figured I was smart in starting on Tuesday as they did a lot running on Friday and then did 1.5 miles on Monday.

I woke up sore on Wednesday and didn’t go in. Surprisingly, I felt pretty good most of the day. My knee didn’t bother me and I iced it at least twice yesterday. Back to Boot Camp tomorrow.

Started back at the bariatric specialist yesterday. Weighed in at 215. That’s 16 more than my lowest weight but my weight has been consistent for the last 2-3 weeks. I’m pretty determined to go at it again and lose the rest of the weight.

Monday Run

Ran this morning and felt pretty good. Walked 1 lap and ran 2 for a total of two miles. Continued on running with some Boot Camp folks but had to leave to get to work early.

I’ll probably be back again in Boot Camp tomorrow.

Tuesday Swim

Swam for 60 minutes and probaly did somewhere around 1600 meters. I just didn’t couldn’t laps. It’s too hard to keep track of at times. Surprisingly, the lower part of my right leg is  sore.

Monday Workout

My knee and leg were a little sore this morning. I’m still perplexed as to why the bottom of my right quad is always stiff/sore/inflexible. Someone suggested that it may be because I’m compensating for the knee. I guess that’s possible.

Did the Physical Therapy workout and then went to the track for 30 minutes. Ran 2 1/2 miles after 1/2 mile of walking. Ended up spending a total of 42 minute on the track because I was keeping my new friend, Grady, company.

Running, Physical Therapy, and a Run on the Beach!

I haven’t updated things for a few days because my computer died and I haven’t had access.

Thursday, I started out to walk 2 laps and run 2 laps until I got to 30 minutes. I got six laps and then ran the rest of the time. And ran for about 35 minutes total - I think. The folks from Boot Camp came up to run two miles and I finished the two miles with Grady so I wasn’t running hard, except for the last 1/2 lap.

Thursday PT was okay. I’m really frustrated because it seems like I’m just showing up to do exercise I can do on my own.

Friday, I biked for 30 minutes - I was still sore from Thursday’s run.

Saturday - I ran outside on the beach for about 45 minutes. I took Jez with me. She seemed to have a good time though she did want to visit with all of the other dogs on the beach. I was so glad to be outside that I forgot all about bringing the phone to record the run!

More exercises- more time

The physical Therapist gave me more exercises to do. I’m glad she did as I was quickly becoming bored and now at least there’s more variety. But, it does take longer to get them done. Once I was done with them, I walked for thirty minutes. A bit more sore than I have been.

PT, Running, and a Video

PT4 went ok. Same thing as I do at home but I had someone to talk to while I did it which was fine.  The therapist added weight to my ankle for the leg lifts so I ended up being a little sore, even upon waking this morning.

Did two miles this morning on the track. 2/3 running.

Channel 5, the local CBS affiliate did a story about Boot Camp. Notice me doing push-ups while balanced on one foot.

PT - Part 3

Okay, I was wrong. Going to PT is actually useful. The therapist corrected my form at times in doing the exercises so it was useful so I could get the max benefit from the exercise. He also added some weight to the exercises, too.

I Can Run!

This morning while I was walking at the Wellness Center, Channel 5 was filming Boot Camp. Janice asked me to be interviewed by the camera crew. When I went in for my doctor’s appointment, Dr. Geier made a comment about people at the Wellness Center asking about my surgery. I guess I’ve become the poster boy for Boot Camp.

The doctor cleared me to run! He said not to run more than three days a week and did say that my knee would become inflamed and swell. So, for now, I’ll stick to the track and only run when I know I’ll have time to ice my knee afterwards. He did say that it would be four months before my knee felt normal. I’ll post some pictures of the knee later when I have time to scan them.

PT - Part 2

Had my 2nd PT session today. I was glad to get the feedback on whether or not I was doing the exercises correctly (I was) but I could have done everything they did without being there. They put a two pound weight on my ankle at one point but it just wasn’t worth the money.
